Grants Administration Department

 

The Grants Administration Department provides a structured approach to pursue and facilitate grants that are strategically aligned with the district's mission statement, the district improvement plan, and the Superintendent's goals. This deparment assists in

  1. disseminating information regarding grant opportunities to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner;

  2. facilitating grant program planning and design;

  3. and the development and completion of grant proposals submitted on behalf of the district.

Grants funded include:

 

* April 2008 – Texas Clean School Bus Project – The goal of this program is to reduce children’s exposure to diesel exhaust (fumes) while riding to and from school and events.  The program will “retrofit” older buses with special filtration systems to reduce emissions.

 

* January 2008 - Title I -No Child Left Behind – School Improvement Program – The program assists schools identified in need of improvement to provide high-quality education, which will enable all children to meet the state performance standards.

 

* January 2008 – Texas Fitness Now – The purpose of this grant is further the goal of reducing childhood obesity and Type II diabetes in physical education programs for students in Grades 6-8.  Awarded to Gonzalez Middle, Lamar Bruni Vergara Middle, Los Obispos Middle, Salvador Garcia Middle, United South Middle, and Washington Middle.

 

* October 2007 – Texas Accelerated Science Achievement Program (ASAP), Cycle 2 -The purpose of the Texas ASAP program is the development and implementation of an intensive intervention program focused on improving student performance in science.  Awarded to Lyndon B. Johnson High and United South High.

 

*October 2007 – Pre-Kindergarten Expansion Grant- The goal is to establish a cohesive service model that will dramatically improve early literacy, language, math and social development for preschool eligible children.  Awarded to Arndt Elementary, Bonnie Garcia Elementary, Centeno Elementary, Cuellar Elementary, Juarez-Lincoln Elementary, Perez Elementary, Prada Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, United D.D. Hachar Elementary, and Zaffirini Elementary.

 

* September 2007 – Achieve Texas College and Career Redesign – The “AcheiveTexas” initiative focuses on developing college and career programs that improve how students learn and what they achieve by better preparing them for secondary and post-secondary educational opportunities, career preparation, meaningful work, and active citizenship.

 

*August 2007 - Texas Educator Excellence Grant Cycle 2 – The purpose of this program is to provide a system of financial incentives to award teachers and staff who motivate students to achieve higher levels of performance.  Awarded to Finley Elementary, Perez Elementary, and United South Middle.

 

* November, 2006 - Optional Extended Year Program from TEA, to provide summer school in 2006 - 2007. Previous years awarded for 2004-2005 and 2005-2006.

 

*October 2006 - Texas Educator Excellence Grant Cycle 1 – The purpose of this program is to provide a system of financial incentives to award teachers and staff who motivate students to achieve higher levels of performance.  Awarded to Cuellar Elementary, Kennedy-Zapata Elementary, Perez Elementary, Prada Elementary, Alexander High, Lyndon B. Johnson High, United High, and United South.

 

*August 2006 – Governor’s Educator Excellence Award Grant, to provide a system of financial incentives to award educators who demonstrate the ability to motivate students to achieve higher levels of performance. Awarded to Roosevelt and Zaffirini High School for school years: 2006-2007, 2007-2008 and 2008-2009.
 

* July 2006 – TOPCAT (Test Online Preparation for College Admissions Tests), to implement programs in selected high schools to support focused instruction and accelerated learning opportunities related to test preparation and postsecondary success. Implemented at Lyndon B. Johnson High School.
 

*February 2006 - Limited English Proficiency Student Success Initiative Grant Program, to increase academic achievement of LEP students as demonstrated through improved TAKS scores, growth in English reading proficiency as measured by Reading Proficiency Tests in English (RPTE), promotion to next grade, and, for secondary students, increased rates of credit accrual.

 

*September 2005 – Temporary Emergency Impact Aid Grant, assists temporary students attending the school district who were displaced due to Hurricane Katrina.
 

*July, 2005 – Project TARGET2, Year Two, to supply technology to all secondary students and homebound students, and technology training for teachers to help improve student achievement, success, and graduation rates. Year One was awarded in June 2003.

 

* April , 2005 - Texas Accelerated Science Achievement Grants, funded on behalf of USHS and LBJHS.

 

*March, 2004 - Equipment for Integrated Physics and Chemistry grants submitted to Region 12, on behalf of Alexander High School, United High School , United South High School, and LBJ High School .

 

* November, 2004 -Texas High School Initiative: Title I Comprehensive School Reform grant funded from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) on behalf of LBJ High School.

 

  * October, 2004 -Texas High School Success and Completion Cycle 2 grant funded from the Texas Education Agency, to improve student graduation and credit accrual rates at Alexander High School

 

* September, 2004 -Texas Reading First Initiative grant. Awarded for School Years: 2004-2005, 2005-2006 , 2006-2007, and 2007-2008.

 

* September, 2004 - Intensive Reading Initiative Part II Grant from TEA to serve 10 elementary campuses using the Voyager Passport/Pasaporte System.

 

* August 2004 - Intensive Reading Initiative Part 1, Grant Part I, to support the core reading program in selected fourth grade classrooms awarded by the Texas Education Agency.

*September 2004 ARI/AMI - Accelerated Reading Instruction (ARI) funding is to be used to provide immediate, targeted intervention programs for students in Grades K-6 who have been identified as at-risk for reading difficulties. Accelerated Mathematics Instruction (AMI) funding is to be used to provide immediate, targeted intervention programs for students in Grades K-6 who have been identified as unlikely to achieve the TAKS mathematics passing standard by the end of Grades 3, 5, and 8. Awarded for years 2004-2005, 2005-2006, and 2006-2007.

 

* August, 2004 - Texas High School Success and Completion Cycle II grant application, funded through the Texas Education Agency on November 25, 2003 to improve student graduation and credit accrual rates. First Awarded In February 2004.
